Best Time in Costa Rica for the Single Male Traveler

High season for tourism in Costa Rica is from January to April, and a single male gentleman can enjoy Costa Rica almost year round. The time to avoid are the major holidays, which are Christmas, Easter Week, and to a lesser extent the onset of school vacations during the first weeks of January.

The months between May and October bring profuse rain, and coming during this time means packing an umbrella or two. Some prefer the rainy season because hotels can be cheaper, and there is always plenty of female talent.

Late December is a really bad time to plan a trip to Costa Rica. Costa Rican law requires employers to pay an additional month of salary during the month of December. As a result expect long lines at restaurants, streets full of people shopping, and increased crime.

At some point during the month the local girls are going to make enough money and then run off to be with their family. Much of the foreign talent will leave Costa Rica in December, and while it is not the ideal time Christmas in the Gringo Gulch is still marginally possible.

Party Continues Into New Year

Things are also a little slow to recover in January because this is when Costa Rican schools enjoy a month off from school. Many of the girls are single mothers and will try to enjoy the time with their families until of course they feel the economic need to buy school supplies. Expect the nightlife to be back to normal by mid-January, however the holiday is definitely not over on Janurary 2nd.

Avoid the Holy Week?

The week of Easter can fall anywhere between February and April. Unlike in the United States this holiday is a serious affair and many people take off a week or more from work. During the Holy Week and the weekend before and after expect hotels on the beach to be packed with local people enjoying the holiday.

There is no Marti Gras in Costa Rica, and in fact the sale of alchohol is prohibited for several days just before Easter Sunday. Easter week is an especially poor time to visit Costa Rica for the single male traveler who does not have a steady girlfriend in Costa Rica.

High Season for the Single Male Tourist

October through early December presents a special opportunity for a gentleman to come to Costa Rica. While the weather in October can still be quite rainy the transition to dry season begins in November and the time of year is usually when the girls are most motivated to get attention.

Halloween is increasingly becoming a modern holiday in Costa Rica, and sexy costume parties are very common in the Gringo Gulch. The start of December is also a big rush for the girls to make some money and go on vacation. Some hotels offer Thanksgiving dinner, and airfare is usually cheap as most tourists wait until January.

Hey! Just came across this and I see you posted it on my birthday, when, coincidentally, I was in Costa Rica for the first time. I loved it, and plan on being in San Jose' on January 13, 2011 too, celebrating my next birthday.
It's great to be able to get updates from someone who's on the scene. Keep up the good work!
