El Pueblo in San Jose
El Pueblo, located just north of downtown San José is the perfect place to meet Costa Rican women. In fact the average American has a really good chance of picking up a twenty something young lady here, and the odds are still good for the tourist who is just in town for a few days.
Take a Wingman or a Couple of Friends
Latinos are more social than gringos, and the solitary male gives off an awkward vibe. Taking a friend or two may also improve the collective Spanish speaking ability which is important for creating the mood. If you come to San José alone then it should be easy to recruit a couple guys that your meet at the Del Rey to come with you to El Pueblo. If they don’t know what El Pueblo is then you are ten minutes smarter than them, which makes you super cool.
Getting There
Jump in any taxi cruising downtown San Jose and ask to go to El Pueblo. The rate should be about $4 from the Hotel Del Rey. Take your passport and keep it in an inside pocket, preferably the kind that is worn under your shirt and around the neck. There is a brief security search at the entrance, and although you should get in line sometimes the security will just waive an obvious gringos through without the check.
Do Approach Women and Introduce Yourself
A single women or group of women is fair game. Fear of rejection should not be a problem as Costa Rican women tend to be very polite, and if they aren’t interested you can expect to be let down gently. The truth is many of these girls do not meet many gringos and will be flattered by the attention of a foreign gentleman. You should promptly invite the girl to a drink, which will be most appreciated.
Always be Closing
Depending on your ability to speak Spanish you can make small talk after you invite a girl to a drink. You should try to close the deal by first talking a little about your hotel. If you are actually staying at the Hotel Del Rey then expect girls to be put off by the idea of coming back to your room. One of the hotels in Barrio Amon should be much more acceptable. This is also where one of the Jacuzzi suites at the Hotel Presidente would come in handy. Try not to spend more than 45 minutes without closing the deal as some of the girls may be so polite as to talk to you all night with no chance of success.
Close the Deal Gently
Very few of the girls at El Pueblo consider themselves to be prostitutes, however few are adverse to receiving a gift after having a wild time with a foreign gentlemen. You just have to find some middle ground here, which is some way for her to save face in front of her friends and own ego while still getting the reward. Suggest that you will take care of her or say something like, “Don’t worry about taxi money honey”. Some of the girls actually are working prostitutes and may quote a rate, but the important thing is to not name any specific monetary figure unless she does first.
Getting Out
Try to avoid the mess of taxis in the parking area, and when you walk out of the main gate go immediately to your left and less than one back away to the main street. Flag a taxi that is coming down the road, and ignore the dozen or so shouted offers for a taxi as all of these will charge you at least three times the going rate or worse.
